Why I Built the AI Marketing Snapshot (And What It Will Tell You About Your Business)
By Jo McAuliffe, Founder, GoClearcut
A few months ago I sat down with a small business owner who had spent $8,000 on a new website the year before.
It looked great. She was proud of it. But she had no idea if it was actually working no idea if people were finding it, no idea how it appeared in Google, no idea if her Google Business Profile was set up properly, no idea whether the money she was spending on Instagram was doing anything at all.
She wasn't naive. She was busy. She was running a business. And no one had ever sat down with her and looked at the whole picture honestly.
That conversation is why I built the AI Marketing Snapshot.
The problem with most marketing audits
Most marketing audits are either too vague to be useful ("your social media needs more engagement") or so technical they leave a small business owner more confused than when they started.
They're also almost always produced by someone who wants to sell you something so the recommendations conveniently align with whatever that agency happens to offer.
I wanted to build something different. A genuine, honest review of a business's entire digital presence not a sales document dressed up as an audit.
What the Snapshot actually looks at
The AI Marketing Snapshot reviews five key areas:
1. Your website
Not just whether it looks good, whether it's structured for how search actually works now. Is it fast? Is it clear? Is it set up so that Google, ChatGPT, and AI search tools can understand what your business does and recommend it? Most websites built even two or three years ago aren't.
2. SEO
Where do you rank for the searches your customers are actually doing? Where are the gaps? What would it take to close them? This isn't about keyword stuffing it's about whether your content and structure match what people are genuinely looking for.
3. Google Business Profile
This is the single most underutilised asset most small businesses have. Your Google Business Profile often appears before your website in search results and most of them are half-finished, out of date, or missing the information that converts a searcher into a customer.
4. Paid advertising
If you're running Google Ads or Meta ads, are they working? Where are the leaks? If you're not running any, should you be and where would it make most sense to start?
5. Social media and AI search visibility
Is your social presence consistent and on brand? And critically, how does your business appear in AI generated search results? This last one is the newest and least understood area, and it's where the biggest opportunity currently sits for most small businesses.
What you get
A clear, one-page report. Plain language. Specific findings. A prioritised list of what to fix immediately, what to build over the next few months, and what to think about longer term.
Not a 40-page document full of graphs that takes three hours to read and leaves you with twelve questions for every one it answers.
Just: here's where you stand, here's what matters most, here's what to do next.
What happens after
The Snapshot leads to a discovery call. We can walk through it together, I explain what I found, you ask questions, and we figure out whether and how GoClearcut can help or of you have got this sorted from here!
Sometimes the answer is "here are three things you can fix yourself this week." Sometimes it's the start of a longer conversation about running your marketing properly. Either way, you leave knowing more than you did.
That business owner I mentioned at the start? We found that her website had a broken contact form, had been broken for six months. No one had told her. She'd been paying for Instagram ads that were sending people to a page where they couldn't reach her.
That's the kind of thing the Snapshot finds.
